I remember in third grade when my art teacher taught us the color triangle and about basic colors. It was amazing ROYGBIV hotness. If everyone else’s third grade art teachers were as cool as mine, then they should at least have some capability of matching and coordinating colors. But alas, this does not seem to be the case. My eyes have taken their share of punishment from large neon purple tops with seizure inducing patterns and other horrendous color combos (you in the green shirt and red tie, it’s not Christmas in June). I’m not made of eyes you know…once I lose these I might have to get bionic eyes. Then where would it end? Next thing you know I’ll be at the Jiffy-Lube getting the oil changed on my bionic arm.
To help some of these color coordinating handinotcapable people out, I thought of a great almost foolproof way for them to pick out stuff to wear. This came to me while I was messing with a tool used for web and graphic design to find complementary colors. A walking clown store must have walked by at the time, and it suddenly connected…why not use this great tool for people too? Colorjack.com has a variety of swatches and color pickers available for use. While it has many uses, the main thing of interest here is the complementary color functionality. You can select any color you want, and it will give you a list of complementary colors that will work with that color. So let’s say you pick a shade of green that looks like the color purple humped a rotten apple. Colorjack will say, ok you sick bastard, here’s what will complement it. As a disclaimer, there are times when no complementary color exists, and if that comes up with something you’re trying to wear, you should probably reevaluate your clothing choice. Or your wardrobe. Or throw in the towel and join a nudist colony.
